I'll be buying Madden 10 on release day, though not on the midnight release. I always tell myself that i'll wait, but i love sports games (basketball and football mostly) too much to not buy. BUT, if the fun isn't there (could be of various reasons), it would end up being traded in for something else quite quickly. With all the changes Ian has done with this iteration i don't have any doubt i'll be playing Madden 10 until next year.

For the first time ever, I pre-ordered Madden.

After just making the upgrade last year to the Xbox 260 (Santa was generous), I was feeling more and more left out. I began reading, though, Ian Cumming's statements that the game was getting an overall. I got stoked. For the past three years, I'd read much that indicated that Madden current gen was wanting in too many areas. So I contented myself with the PS2, and waited.

The wait is almost over. And yes, I'm exited. Next step--should I play online? I'm not sure I'm ready for it, having never been anything other than an offline player. Never gone head to head. Ever.

This year, a buddy of mine is coming into town with his wife. She and my wife are going shopping Friday, while my bud and I get sick playing Madden. He considers himself quite a Madden baller. We'll see.

I have only bought 2 current-gen games on release day...NCAA 09 and this year's version of The Show. Madden will be the 3rd. It will also be the first time I've picked up a current-gen game at midnight.

As many of you know, I have not been a big fan of the business and development practices of EA for quite some time. However, this year's Madden has shown that they are trying to improve things. We've all seen the gimmicks in the past few years that basically dressed up a yearly roster update. However, this year's addition (Pro-Tak) is a revolutionary step forward to the actually gameplay. It became clear that the development team finally "got it" and put their time towards the gameplay itself, not towards playmakers or mini-games which were never quite right.

The question is how long this game will keep us interested. It is clear that while the early reviews of the game are great, the engine itself is showing it's age. EA needs to reinvest some of their profits from Madden into development of a 21st century gameplay engine. Will they do it with current-gen? Doubtful due to a variety of factors including the fact that we are closer to the PS4/Xbox 720 than PS2/Xbox. We can only hope that they learn from Madden 06 and begin development on a next-gen engine sooner rather than later.

I agree with msajeff. I bought madden 09 at midnight last year and played it for a few months but I got bored with all the other games that came out last year.

I'm getting madden 10 again at midnight and I'm looking forward to it. I mean we saw the videos and we played the demo(1min and 5 min demos). The game has a different feel to it. I kinda of wish I had the day off of work on Friday so I could get started on my franchise both offline and online. But I plan on being at gamestop at 10pm they are having a kick off party so I get off of work at 9:30 so I'll just go up there after work and stay.

I must say I am getting excited and I hope this game can keep my attention for the whole year rather then 3-4 months.

I also agree with the previous point. The last few years, I have stayed away from buying on release day becasue previous versions have not kept me playing. This year however, I'm thinking of buying on release day, assuming I can find a copy since I havent pre ordered.

I'm not sure whats making me think diferently this year....I havent been following the info releases, or whatching many videos, didnt even download the demo...so maybe thats it. It could also be that I played the heck out NCAA last year so I'm just wanting to try Madden now. But ultimatley I think its that my wife is out of town and I'm flat bored...

Either way I'm 90% sure I'll have it on release. Jumping in blind hopefully helps to make it a good Madden year.

I am extremely excited for Madden NFL 2010 this year. I am not sure why, maybe it is just because I have not had time for video games lately, but I just can not wait to sit down, fire up the game, and throw back a few drinks (in that order).

I am also excited to get into online play, as I have never been a big on-line gamer.

Like Jose I have not followed Madden much, but I have played NCAA a lot so if nothing else it will be a good change of pace. I just hope that the game is good enough to where this time next year I can say "I have been playing Madden 2010 all year".

I've always been a big franchise player, and through scouring the net for franchise impressions i believe that most of my gripes about the mode, (screwed progression and stats, certain features not working) i'm quite sure that i'll be playing Madden a good deal longer than i have any of the other versions since coming to the PS3. Now if they add some of the missing features to the online franchise i may play that at some point, but i was never a big online online guy besides shooters (as you may know my love or CoD 4 and Killzone).

Thanks to the guys for their interesting responses and we'll be checking back again post-release for an update to see whether the game lived up to their expectations.
