Generally as a rule of thumb, you want to run your plays to the side of the field that has more room for your receivers to operate. Stay away from stacking receivers tot the short side of the field. The short side of the field is defined as running a play to the same side of the field that the ball is on. As an example, if the ball is on the right hash mark, the short side of the field is the right side. By bunching your receivers up on the short side of the field, they may get jammed up, which in turn may cause them to break their routes. Putting you receivers in this position makes things easier to the defender because there is not much of the field to cover.
