Blitzing defenders will usually cheat towards the line. When you see defenders cheating towards the line Audible to a play, which works against the blitz. If they are coming up the gut, audible to something behind the blitzing defensive player. Any pass play using a 3-step drop will work. Quick hitting run plays will work but stay away from the delayed runs, counters, and sweeps. One of the more effective plays is the screen pass. The defense moves up field quickly and is out of position when the throw is made.
Advanced cyber blitz reading. Blitzing is a high risk, high reward style of play. A team blitzes to cause disruption, especially if you have no idea how to handle it. The CPU blitzing scheme has its technical flaws, which makes it very hard to read sometimes. Normally, a blitzing defender will cheat towards the line of scrimmage so they can overwhelm the offensive line as fast as possible. Not so in some of these video football simulations. Blitzing players will sometimes sit idly by in their formational set until you snap the ball and they attack your QB. It makes blitzes almost impossible to read, but cause the computer blitzes to be very ineffective.
The most effective blitzing plays are done by human opponents. One of my favorite ways to blitz is to take my DE and move him a little to the outside of the offensive line. This works well against humans as well as the computer. Then have the OLB blitz over top of the OT. Thus freeing up my DE for the sack. Sounds simple but you have to practice it to pull it off consistently.
There are several ways to make your opponent never want to take a high risk defensive approach again. One way to counter his blitz is to recognize which player he is using to blitz and exploit his weakness there. If he chooses a line backer LB to blitz, throw to a running back HB (a great deal of their routes are covered by LB's) or throw to a receiver that is crossing the middle of the field (cherry picking). If your opponent chooses a safety, throw the ball deep to the receiver on the side of the field of the blitzing safety left open.
