Winning with the New England Patriots shouldn't come to much of a challenge, as the team is very talented and deep. A team full of veterans, the Patriots are known in "real football" as a team that can get it done, and it transfers to Madden. A combination of Tom Brady's awareness and Corey Dillon's running ability is something only rivaled by the Colts. Then there is defense. As far as Madden 2006 goes, the Patriots defense is amazing. Even with the loss of Tedy Bruschi, MLB Ted Johnson steps in and is fairly solid. Make sure to keep DE Richard Seymour doing various stunts and rushing oppoents QBs until they have nightmares. The best advice I can give regarding the Patriots is to play aggressive offense, mixing the pass and rush and throwing the opponent's defense off guard, and playing alot of zone-rush defense, using DE Richard Seymour and SS Rodney Harrison to put a stop to the run.
Beating the Patriots may be one of the toughest things to do in Madden 06. Tom Brady has an amazing vision cone, so you never know where that guy is throwing the ball, plus there is that other guy who nearly led the league in rushing last season, Corey Dillon. What they start you with will help determine what kind of defense you need to play. If Corey Dillon is running all over you, stack the box by pressing 'Y' or 'Triange' and then left on the D-Pad. Play alot of Man-to-Man coverage, as zone coverage isn't going to throw Tom Brady off too well. Pass rush hard and often, because Brady isn't going anywhere on the ground. If you don't play smart against the Patriots, you won't need to worry about winning.
Strengths: -K Adam Vinateri has great accuracy and clutch. -QB Tom Brady has amazing awareness, as well as a solid arm. -The Patriots linebacker core is amazing, anchored by LOLB Willie McGinest. -Great safties for coverage and/or runstopping. -Corey Dillon's above-average speed and amazing run power. -Speedy Wide Receivers who can actually catch the ball. -Great backup in Kevin Faulk who can receive well out of the backfield.
Weaknesses: -Deploited O-Line with lack of depth. -No longer have shutdown cornerback. -Lack of depth at Quarterback.
QB Tom Brady: As mentioned in every paragraph so far, this guy is a true talent. With 97 awareness, this guy's vison cone is huge, and he can almost see behind him. Tom also has good accuracy and decent power, but don't leave the pocket with him, you won't get far.
HB Corey Dillon: Corey has decent speed and great running power. When approaching a defensive back or small linebacker, you better truck stick the heck out of him. Corey accelerates great out of the backfield, but doesn't have much agility, so don't plan on breaking many ankles.
WR Deion Branch: Deion is what I call... fast! This guy is fast in every aspect of speed, and has hands good enough to make a catch. As soon as you catch it with him expect to grab some good yardage after the catch and make a few guys miss.
SS Rodney Harrison: Rodney is a run-stopping, tackling, fumble-forcing, beastly machine. With great awareness, strength and tackling, rush this guy and play him close to the line to stop the run. Don't plan on covering with him too well, as he lacks speed badly.
LB Willie McGinest: This veteran is a smart player who has mad tackling tecnique. Willie isn't the fastest linebacker (or close to it) and he can't catch all that well, but he knows what is happening ont he field, and can close in and lay the wood down.
K Adam Vinateri: Adam is the best kicker in Madden with his 94 kicking power, 94 kicking accuracy and 94 awareness, making him the 94 master:). Did I mention this guy has 94 injury? By the way, 99 overall
